Some how, in between meetings, deadlines, dr’s appointments and the usual day to day chaos I managed to finish the top for my sister in law’s quilt. I was of course hoping to finish the whole quilting process by today but life had other plans. This is as far as I have got…
I made the blocks for this quilt using the Trip Around the World process and then instead of sewing the strips in order I mixed things up a little. My blocks ended up looking random and pixellated and a little cool. You can find my original post about the block here.
So now I have a quilt top made up of 2 inch squares of solid blues with a hint of blue purple thrown in. My stash of solid blues is now almost depleted but I am so thrilled with the result.
Now I just have to quilt this cascading waterfall up, bind it and get it to SoCal. Not a problem!
It’s gorgeous. Clean, crisp, beautiful blues. She’s going to be very, very happy. Are you going to do something mad with backing and binding, or keep it straight and simple?
I love this!!! It is beautiful in it’s simplicity, both color and design. 🙂
Thanks Emily. I struggle working in solids but this quilt has been pretty easy, I have been making my own patterns with the colour.
It’s such a pretty quilt! Can’t wait to see how you’ll quilt it!
Man, that’s amazing! Patchwork is my favorite. Solids are my favorite. Blue is my favorite. Are you sure this isn’t for me?? hahaha!
Sorry…maybe next time! How about you make me me a Leila and I will make you one if these.
I just love all the blues! So beautiful!
Love all those beautiful solids! I know I’d end up quilting it on the diagonal, so I can’t wait to see what you come up with!
Great minds… I am going to quilt on the diagonal. It adds texture and pattern to the solid fabric I think.
So gorgeous! And such a fantastic way of piecing it. I probably would have cut out all the little squares then tried to “randomly” arrange them, then stitch them together. Um yeah, your way… so much better!! Can’t wait to see it all finished up!
I am amazed how fresh and different these patterns look with different colours…Must show my patchwork teacher….You’ve got me going again now after my break of Xmas feeling invigorated.
I must admit I am tempted to make this quilt again with warm colours. It is so fun and freeing. I really did not worry too much about the block placement at all. Just went with it.
Beautiful blues! I love the pixel look it has going on. I am sure that she will love it!
Hey Cath, looks really great! I’m very courious how you back and bind it… will see 🙂
Love this! You did a great job balancing the colors in the layout too.
I love the blues and it’s a nice to have the freedom to sew and not have any worries.
So beautiful cath- and I love how you used the trip around the world to make this pixelated beauty. She will love it.
Love it! Really want to try that method.
What a gorgeous sea of blue and so well balanced. Looking forward to seeing how you quilt it 🙂
Love it! All great artists have a blue period – Picasso, Cath …
Too funny. I have used a bit of blue lately…maybe time to return to my pink roots!
I think this is so lovely. One one hand, very simple, but with so many colours, it’s just stunning. I’m sure your sister in law will love it.
E xx
Love it! So simple yet elegant.
