After some of the discussions about the complexity (or not) of last week’s block, I decided to do a really simple block this week.
This block, which measures only 8″ x 8″, was made using a free paper piecing pattern by Moira McSpadden at The Quilted Snail. Â I thought my Starry Night quilt would work best if I vary the size of some of the blocks – my usual Paper Piecing Monday size is 12″ x 12″. Â This block only uses a mere 18 pieces of fabric and is really quick and easy to make.
It is so easy to make I made two…
If I am honest I made this block first but was not completely happy with it so made the other version.
Oh, this is a beautiful star ~ love the colors you picked to do it!
This is so pretty. I really want to try this but have to find some time for the 101 “other” things I need to do first. 🙂
They’re both lovely! I look forward to seeing the finished quilt, too!
Give me a couple of months and hopefully I will have quilt top in some sort of form…hopefully.
I love your inky blue backgrounds – makes me want to enhance my skimpy blue stash! The stars really dance!
I am in the process of increasing my navy blue stash… I am using so much of it lately, it is such a great neutral.
I love the blues that you have been using for this! So pretty1
A pretty star. Love yellows.
Really nice. Another to add to my ‘must try pile’. Good motivation to fill my ‘boring’ sewing orders… 🙂
Hope the “must try” pile is not too big. This is a fun.
Now that one’s simple enough even I could do it. And very pretty too. But first I have to finish one or two (OK, at least 10) other projects that I’ve promised or put aside.
I know what you mean. I have 8 tops needing quilting and 6 projects that need finishing. There are not enough hours in the day and definitely not enough quilting elves to go around.
Your blog (as a whole) is just divine.
I’m Very Very new to quilting (as in, not yet made anything but booked on a course to learn) This block is beautiful, it looks incredibly intricate to me. I don’t think I could ever describe it as simple 🙂
Welcome to the wonderful world of quilting. I really hope you enjoy your course and the quilting process. When I first started quilting paper piecing was how I did all my blocks…it allowed me to do intricate as well as simple blocks easily. As you get more experience you should give this block a go. You might find it easier than you think.
Oooo I do hope you’re right. Your quilts are absolutely gorgeous. If i can produce half as beautiful as you, im a happy lady 🙂
I thought I saw a completed full quilt of this when I first found it the other night but I cannot find it now . Do you happen to have a link to a completed starry night quilt?
Monica… one of my original inspirations for this quilt was Quilts of Feather’s Tardis quilt which I linked to… http://www.quiltsofafeather.com/2013/10/wip-tardis.html. I think that might be what you are looking for.
