I have just finished the last block for my aqua and red star quilt. It took a while to decide what I wanted to do for the last block but I finally ended up with this…
I went with the Oregon Star from Carol Doak’s “50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars“. It seemed fitting to do the state star from where I live. I amended the pattern a little, making it a 60 piece star.
I am now going to spend the rest of the day playing with sashing. I am still not sure whether I want to sash or not and have no idea what colour to use, so playing will be a necessity. I looking forward to seeing how it all comes together.
What do you think? All suggestions, hints and advice greatly appreciated.
No suggestions but it looks awesome!
Wowwww those blocks! Love the dark/deep reds and aquas together! I like it without sashing, but if you decided to add it I vote a light neutral.
I am torn I must admit. Most samplers have sashing and it makes each block stand alone BUT I love it without sashing. It may take me a while to make a decision.
I’m probably crazy, but I instantly thought of using pink as a sashing. Otherwise, I, too, would be tempted to simply sew these blocks together. I think they look lovely just the way they are.
I am making one very similar to yours…..I fell in love with your blocks a few months ago and had to make one….your blocks are gorgeous….my plan for mine is to set on point with a off white with small teal polka dots and red cornerstones…can’t wait to see yours finished
I pulled out some red and white dots to try for the sashing as well as white, red and aqua. I will now also try some pink. Thanks.
Wow, the stars a fabulous! Love the colour combination.
I think red and white dots (I saw that before I ready your comment) or no sashing
Wow! Now that’s a star quilt! I would pick out the darkest blue fabric that you have used in your star blocks and use that for a very thin sashing, maybe 1/2″ finished? I think the dark blue will make the reds and lighter blues pop and the thin sashing will be just enough to define each star. I’ve hit the follow button on bloglovin’ so I can see what you decide 🙂
I like your idea. Thanks. I will play with navy and a dark aqua.
These are so gorgeous! I’m really into plain white sashing these days, so that’s what I’m picturing, But the blocks are so pretty, any color will probably work :).
Your work is FABULOUS! Whatever you decide will be great, I’m sure. If I were going to sash, I’d favor either white– very crisp– or a very pale aqua. Looking forward to seeing the end result/decision!
An amazing collection of stars. I would like a white or gray sashing….if it was me a light gray solid would be the first preference 🙂
Adding grey to the list. Thanks.
My thinking would be to use the least used colour that is common to most of your blocks (white) as the sashing, to tie all the colours in together, but personally I think it would look best without sashing. You’ve done an awesome job
These blocks are beautiful and boy they look like a lot of work. How about white or charcoal for the sashing? It depends where it’s going to go. If it were going in my room, I’d probably use charcoal. If it were going in my daughter’s room, I’d use white. If it were going in my son’s room, I’d go darker than the darkest red or aqua. In a common area – I would seriously consider a pieced sashing (white, red, white thin strips). Whatever your choice, the blocks are exceptional!
Thanks. I am going to enjoy playing with the layout and sashing and seeing what takes my fancy.
Gorgeous! I can’t decided on sashing or not. It looks great as is, can’t wait to see what you decide!
I don’t have any suggestions, but oh my – I so love this color combination!!
I too like it without sashing, but it would also look good with crispt white sashing and cornerstones in one of the colours! Can’t wait to see what you choose!
The colors are stunning! Can’t wait to see what you decide to do for the sashing! I always have a hard time with that part too.
I love these blocks!! I don’t think you need any sashing although I like some of the suggestions so far. I’m sure whatever you decide it will look awesome.
This is just gorgeous. I totally wouldn’t have thought to put red and aqua together, but it really works!
Beautiful; love the stars but also the color choices.
Thanks. I hope to finish this quilt up soon. Your comment has reminded me to pull the blocks out and get this top finished. Thanks.
What do I think?? I think “wow!!!” You are a very good (and patient!) quilter… my hat’s off
Thanks. Now I just have to finish it up.
