After putting my blocks up on the design wall last week I really wanted to try to do a different kind of star and this is what I came up with…
I threw together two different patterns from Carol Doak’s book “50 Fabulous Paper Pieced Stars“. I seriously love how you can mix and match the star patterns and come up with your own concoction.
For this 64 piece star I used one piece of the Montana star and one piece of Ohio. It is a unusual combination but I kind of like the fractured look the star has. I think it will go nicely with the other stars made so far.
This is really pretty. I may have to revisit that book. 🙂

It’s like snowflakes. Everyone is unique! That’s a lovely new star.
Sparkly gorgeous!
Very pretty!
I heart this very much! 🙂
That is a great effect; I foresee a lot of mixing and matching in your future.
very creative idea and looks great with your “old” stars.
Love the shattered effect. It will look great with the other stars.
What a great idea and one I’d never have thought of. I love the effect it gives. Another great star to add to your growing starry night.
I love it. It has so many great fabrics. I’m not sure I would have the patience to do it.
It is not as complex as it looks. Using scraps really makes it look more detailed…it is a great optical illusion.
Wow. 64 pieces. Wow. 🙂
I have that book and love it! I have to admit, though – I never thought about mix and matching from the different patterns. Genius. 🙂
That is just gorgeous! Great mashup. 🙂
