Some Quilt Talk and a giveaway…

I have been waiting for this day for what seems like ages…. today, this day, when I get to take part in the Blog Hop for my friend Sam Hunter’s new book, Quilt Talk.

Quilt Talk book

I first heard of Sam through her “We Are Sew Worth It” campaign, which was eye opening for me.  Sam started a serious conversation about the value of our work, a quilter’s work, as artists, which continues to resonate with me.

About 6 months later I was thrilled to hear that Sam had moved to Portland and joined the Portland Modern Quilt Guild.  The first time I met her I knew I had found a kindred spirit- she was straight talking, feisty, talented and hilarious (if you want to know what Sam’s sense of humor is like take a closer look at the buckets on the cover of her new book!)

You can imagine my excitement when I found out Sam was doing a paper piecing book… Quilt Talk is designed around a paper pieced font, which includes a full alphabet with letters, numbers, special characters and accents  There is also a dozen lovely projects that you can customize with your own words… my fave is this Star Wars inspired beauty (yes I am a geek)…

As part of the Blog Hop Sam has given each Hop host the paper pieced pattern for a particular word and a link on how to use them to make the buckets on the cover of her book.  My word is appropriately…

HEXIES Bucket

DOWNLOAD THE HEXIES PATTERN HERE….

You can collect the full set of patterns by visiting the other Blog Hop hosts…

ALL Buckets - STACKED

Sam has also kindly given me a copy of the book to give away to one lucky reader… so if you would like to win a hard copy of this fabulous book just leave a comment, telling me what your favorite colour is… a random winner will be drawn on Sunday night (12th October) and announced during Paper Piecing Monday’s post.

  1. Well, I’ve loved orange for a long time but lately Red has taken over!
Love that hexie bucket with all the bee fabric!
Thanks for the chance to win!

  2. I love light teal the best with turquoise running a close second. I want your bucket as well! Currently working on a GM’s Flower garden with 7/8″ hexies. Got a long way to go for my king quilt!

  3. All my life I have loved rusts and browns. Now I’m adding touches of lime. never one for whimsy this is new for me. Thanks for a chance to win this book.

  4. I love green but then there is purple…. oh my what about orange???? how juicy! Then I look at yellow, soft and buttery or sharp and lemony. Then I start thinking how the colors go go with each other. I love browns and shade of black through white. I just can’t pick. I love them all.

  5. Hello Cath… so cool that you’re a part of it… and the HEXIES are fitting with your summer-camping-holiday-work. My favourite colour (at the moment) is orange… because it is a really flaming autumn colour! Kind regards, Annett

  6. green is my favorite all time color, but latley I have been gifted several “oranges” and they are growing on me!

  7. I’m glad to here there is another lover of pink out there. Maybe we will get Sam converted. Thank you for the chance to win a copy of her book.

  8. I’ve been so enjoying Sam’s blog hop, and am happy it hopped around to you, because I love your blog too (remember me, the silly girl who thought you were doing some sort of trunk show in Australia?). Favourite (and let’s remember that we’re both Australians and can spell words correctly) color at the moment is blue. Perhaps it’s just influenced by the quilt I’m working on.

  9. My favourite colour is green… Most days. Then sometimes, I love grey, which can have green in it so that counts too, right?

  10. My favorite colour is pink.. was blue and before that …. ? ….. but NOW influenzed by a blog called Wombat Quilt ;0) I am getting more and more in to the rest of the colours… Have been trying for a long time now to find letters to quilt. Would love this book on my bookshelfe…
