I have been having some fun over the last couple of days, playing with my quilting. The other day while out walking around my neighborhood with my husband I took this photo.
This beautiful flower inspired me to make a modern improv quilt. I worked for a couple of hours last night and so far this is what I have…
I will keep going and hope to have the top finished by Friday. I had made a deal with myself NOT to start any more quilts until I had finished some, but when the inspiration grabs you, just go with it…. right?
The other playing I did yesterday was looking at how I want to finish up my Paper Piecing Monday quilt. After getting some great suggestions I worked with a couple of colours…. here are my top picks, in no particular order.
Then there is the no sashing option…
Let me know what you think? What is your favorite?
I like the navy blue, I feel like it really makes the blocks pop. Whatever you pick it will be beautiful!
Here’s my two cents: I like the navy or white background the best. The red seems too hot, the dots a bit busy, and no sashing looks a little cluttered. That said, you make lovely quilts and whatever you choose will look great, I’m sure!
I am with you about the navy. It is what I am leaning towards.
Ohhhhh, love the poppy block! I love poppies! I absolutely love the no sashing option or the white, I think the colors pop more. They are beautiful and I’m so glad your last star was the Oregon one. I think that’s my favorite one out of the 50 in the book 🙂 I can’t wait to see what you decide!
Upon looking again, because duh I had to, I really like the navy as well! Which means I narrowed down nothing! hahaha.
You are feeling my pain. I like the navy but still like the no sashing. augh.
I really love your flower improve quilt. You tempt me to try this one, even though I have so many quilts I have to finish. But isn’t that how it is with us?
Wip Wednesday always ends with me adding at least two new quilts to the “must do” list. There is never enough time.
My favorite is the navy, followed by white. I think the reds detract from your quilt blocks, although before I saw your photos, I would have suggested red, too!
navy!!!
I really like the navy best. I think the aqua and red pop more with it. I like your improve block too, and it’s a great way to use up scraps.
I vote navy! Gives a little breath from vibrant colors. And I love the poppy improv. I want to try a technique like that very soon.
You just have to go where the urge strikes! I like the red with dots, but I appear to be in the minority 😉
I was thinking of doing a little square of the dots in the middle of the sashing. I also really like it as an sashing too.
Inspiration from a flower is awesome! Your paper piecing is terrific!
I love your quilts! The flower you made from the picture you took is amazing !!!
I really like the navy. 8>.
I love the dots!! 🙂 I already grabbed the paper piecing book from the library as a result of what you’ve been putting up. Regardless, it’ll be beautiful!! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. The book is really fun and there is so much you can do with the patterns. I would love to see what you do. Keep me posted.
I vote the navy sashing, it really makes those blocks pop! I love the poppy block, it turned out really nice.
I like the navy too! Though I think the red dot is really awesome too… I like your idea of navy sashing, with red dot squares at the junctions! The poppy improv quilt is great. That was some good inspiration you got 🙂
Oh, I really like the navy the best. It helps all the blocks shine. Some of the other choices blend into the blocks a bit more.
Your stars are beautiful.
I love the navy sashing. I think that if there were only two background colours for the stars then I would say with no sashing, but somehow the red backed stars don’t quite look right when there is no sashing (somehow, can’t explain why though…)
I agree about the red stars. I think the general consensus is navy, now I just have to do it.
i like the navy the red makes you lose to much on the red blocks that meet up with it, unless you have a really deep turquoise navy would be my choice. love these blocks
I tried the dark turquoise but it did not do it for me. I lost the aqua/turquoise blocks a bit too much.
I have to tell you, I LOVE your paper pieced blocks. They are absolutely gorgeous! My preference for sashing is 1) the red or 2) the red and white pokadots. I am looking forward to seeing the completed top.
For what it is worth you can not go past the navy
Well, I’m in the minority as I like no sashing. Second choice would be the white.
Not alone. I like no sashing. I think the strong turquoise and red can stand on their own
While the spots are fun, the navy shows off the blocks better. Go for it!
I’m torn between the navy and the dots.
The navy sashing really makes these blocks pop! Can’t wait to see what you do with it.
I like the navy too, it provides a great balance with the blocks.
I think I like the navy best, although I am loving those polka dots too…tough choice! It will be lovely no matter which you go with 🙂
Wow! gorgeous!
I’m bouncing between the navy, which offsets the blocks without competing, and the red, which really makes the turquoise pop!
Gorgeous improv!!! I like either the white or the no sashing!!!
Love the dots!
Gorgeous blocks. I really like the white background and the polka dots.
The navy is pretty good, but I still like the look of the blocks without sashing better.
Love the flower-inspired improv.
I’d vote for no sashing, or white as a second choice. Definitely not the red!
I love the dots!
Oh, the polka dot! What a lovely way to frame such happy, beautiful blocks! Incredible!
Your Poppy freeplay is amazing! You’ve got a good eye for placement and I love when we let the Muse have its way!
Loving the navy sashing!
And your improv poppy inspired block is great!
I love 4 the most second is 1.
Just my .02. 🙂
I love the navy! It really makes it “pop”!
Navy is also my favourite, it makes the lovely blocks really stand out.
I like the red and white polka dotted
I like your idea of using the polka dots as sashing corners, with the navy, I think. Either that or no sashing is my vote. Like many others, I also love your poppy improv. Beautiful interpretation!
