I beg your indulgence as I replace this week’s Paper Piecing Monday with a selection of highlights from my weekend at the Sister’s Outdoor Quilt Show. First up has to be…
The firemen putting up the quilts. We arrived early (around 7.45am) to set up the PMQG bits and pieces for the show and managed to see quite a few of the quilts go up.
This was my first time to the Sister’s Show and I was blown away by the volume of quilts. Everywhere you look there were quilts hanging from building… over a thousand of them in total.
What follows is a smattering of the quilts that caught my eye on Saturday, starting with some of the PMQG quilts…
And on the other side of the building Elizabeth Hartman’s new Sampler quilt was hanging…
There were modern quilts scattered all over town including…
This quilt is made up of the same little block, the detail is just amazing….
In the air-conditioned library (it got close to 100 degrees outside) local quilt artists Wendy Hill and Pat Pease had an exhibition of their amazing work…
And the Central Oregon Modern Quilt Guild had a wonderful exhibition of its members quilts, which all used the Ohio Star block in the most wonderful ways including Katy’s Camp Fire Ohio Star…
and this wonderful quilt with the Ohio Star printed onto the quilt… genius!
Scattered around town there were a number of quilts that used denims in their construction including…
The details in this quilt are amazing..
I can not imagine piecing such a thick fabric let alone quilting it… but Diane Jackson managed to do the most amazing quilting on her piece “Red Square”.
Animals were also well represented in the show with my favorites being this fellow…
and Elizabeth Hartman’s Liberty Fox quilt…
There were of course hundreds of more classic quilts including the fabulously scrappy…
As well as some beautiful vintage quilts….
But my favorite of the show has to be this beauty…
It is a seriously amazing quilt… and that wave… wow….
To finish up I leave you with our Modern Quilters group shot. Towards the end of the day a group of modern quilters from all over gathered to say hi before scattering to the wind…
Oh, thank you so much! They are all so beautiful! My favorite Untitled by Maren Johnson
It was a fabulous fabulous experience being there. I didn’t make it to the meet up as I was too dang hot but I see some of my fabulous Fraser Valley Modern quilt guild peeps in your photo!
It was crazy hot… even after applying sun screen 3 times during the day I still ended up burnt!
Thank you so much for this post. I have never been able to go to that show. One of these years!! The Poppy Blaze Big Bang by Sheree Lloyd must be HUGE! So many diamonds to cut and sew perfectly! I loved seeing the modern quilts. Don’t know that I could pick a favorite though Lines and Spaces by Carol Webb is very appealing. Your blog is wonderful. Thank you again for investing in the time it takes to share with us.
I love the quilts you photographed. Very unusual in pattern and construction. Real pieces of art.
Thank you for sharing.
Looks like such fun!
What a fabulous show. Thanks for sharing.
It looks wonderful and sounds as if you had a ball, sunburn or not. Thank you for taking the time to document it so we could share it too.
Thanks for letting me walk along with you all!
Fantastic! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing your pictures. They’re wonderful. Glad to hear you had such a great time.
Wow, this looks like so much fun! Thanks for sharing all the photos. I’m especially drawn to that multi-colored quilting with the zig-zags thrown in, not sure if it is Wendy Hill or Pat Pease…?
I believe it is one of Wendy’s pieces. It is very cool.
Wow, thank you so much for sharing a bit of what you saw there! I agree that Under the Waves is just an amazing and stunning piece of art.
Wow, love all of them, made me feel like I was wandering along enjoying the atmosphere. Big thank you 🙂
Very cool. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful! Thanks for sharing. I especially love the one by Jeanette Pilak.
Thank you for sharing pics! I didn’t make it there this year so this is kind of a nice “snap shot” (pun intended) of the experience. Sad you got sunburned! I wonder how those quilts do with all that sunlight but, I worry about things like that living in TX. Thanks again! 🙂
It was a great show this year and I’m sorry that I didn’t make it to the photo op. My sis and I started melting in the heat but were fortunate enough to take a couple of classes in Sisters for the first time!
It was a fab show for sure. Thanks for sharing your favs!
I’ve never been to Sisters.. hope to get there one day. Thanks so much for sharing part of your experience here. I love many of the quilts you’ve featured, and am very proud of my friend Maren J.
Thanks for your post. My sister and I backed out of going because of the heat, so your pics are appreciated!
How amazing to have so much wonderful art all located in one place! Thank you for sharing the photos with us. These quilts are truly inspiring!
Ridiculously beautiful masterpieces…One that painfully caught my eye was the “Under the Waves” quilt. To put it together is already a feat, but to do it well and convey the quilter’s perspective is quite impressive. Kudos to all!
Thanks for highlighting my quilt! What an honor. Mine was the Ohio Campfire – I love the photo you took. You really captured the detail! Thanks again! Cheers, Katy
Thanks for letting me know Katy, I love your quilt. I tried to record all the details of the quilts but missed a couple. I have amended my blog post.
I hope you don’t think I was trying to correct you. Just felt honored mine was included in your recap!
Not at all. I am so glad you let me know, so I could amend my post. I hate not crediting, and nearly did not put the two quilts I did not have details for up, but it loved them too much not too.
Greetings! How wonderful to find a post with images of my very first exhibited quilts on the net!! I recently had a discussion w/ another artist about my quilt ‘Aerial View’, and that there was another quilter doing a similar theme. She couldn’t remember the artist’s name, so I did a google search for “Aerial View Quilts”, and found you. Thank you so much for the nice compliments, I was surprised, and excited to see my work on-line.. That said, I would like to credit Sharon Baggs as the quilter of both “Aerial View” and “Red Square”; she’s simply marvelous. I neglected to give her credit at the SOQS, so feel I must here. Thanks again for the wonderful post.
