Playing with a Lizzy Rainbow… and a giveaway

Last weekend my darling husband abandoned me to go on a boys camping trip, and as soon as he had walked out the door I knew exactly what I was doing with my free time….

You see just before DH left I took delivery of the latest Lizzy House range, Lovely Hunt….and I knew that I had to use it immediately so I pulled out ALL my Lizzy House fabric….

my lizzy house stash

…and cut out a 5 inch square from each piece of fabric.  Then, using my hexagon mini for guidance I got to work….

As there was no husband I could keep working without having to pack things away… I had squares and fabric all over the floor…and it took me a couple of days to get all the blocks up…I kept adjusting and rearranging, coming back to the design wall in between other tasks…I finally ended up with this…

The first block I placed was the low volume cats and then I just worked slowly from there.  I tried to tackle one or two colours at a time, making sure that there was a flow to the colours…

Not all the fabric made it into this quilt top…

I only ended up using 168 different fabrics and had about 20 left over.  I could not work out how to make the brown palette work so it did not even get a look in.

A couple of the prints had too much colour variation in them at 5 inches big to make the them work, but all the wonderful blenders…the Pearl Bracelets, the mini bracelets, the Butterflies and the chain links helped make the novelty fabrics play nice.

This quilt is definitely my quilt… it is not going anywhere but onto our couch.  As the weather starts to turn icky here in the Pacific Northwest this quilt will keep me warm and cozy…. all I have to do is finish it up!

Now while I was cutting up my Lizzy Stash I cut an extra fat eight or two for a give away.  By the time I had finished working through my stash I had a stack of 25 different fabrics… including quite a few out of print beauties, as well as some of the new Lovely Hunt….

So if you would like to win this fat eight bundle just leave a comment below, telling me what you would do with this wonderful bundle of colour.  I will draw a winner next Wednesday, and as always the contest is open to my overseas friends too.

This giveaway is closed. Thanks to everyone who entered and congratulations to Linda who won.

  1. I would make a rainbow quilt. I have a bunch of fat quarters that I have been hoarding, not knowing what I want to make with them, and wanting to keep for myself. What you made is perfect.

  2. I don’t seem to have much of an imagination when I want to buy fun fabrics, so this lot certainly would give my, umm, somewhat ‘boring’ stash a fresh and happy ‘zing’! I think I would make my first ever hexie quilt; Recently, I punched out a huge bag of hexies, then realized I didn’t have any fun fabrics to make hexies with, so there sits the bag, on my coffee table, making me feel guilty…..

  3. My mom just moved into a condo that is so monochrome! White carpet, white walls, no color anywhere. That is not my mom! I would love to make her a wall quilt that is bursting with color.

  4. Ooh I would love to win this!! I’ve been picturing a rainbow-y scrappy trip quilt in my head, made completely from my Lizzy House collection of fabrics, and this would be such the perfect addition!! Thanks for a chance to win 🙂

  5. Wow! I would sit and look at this bunch of awesomeness for a long time. Then I think I would start to add in coordinating bits and pieces from my stash, with sashing in black Essex yarn dyed linen to really let these gorgeous colours shine. Thanks for being so generous with such precious fabrics!

  6. I always have a mile long wish list of patterns I want to make so it’s always hard to say ahead of time – hexies or Fancy Foxes or like you, charms. Thanks for the chance!

  7. This bundle would be put to good use as I sew it into a few fabric baskets for my sewing room. One would hold fat quarters and another would hold scraps.

  8. I have limited Lizzy supply and not much of what I see there. I could definitely use to make a 100% LH quilt for me to snuggle in!! Yours turned out beautiful!!!

  9. I would love to make another Lizzy House quilt! I made a pink and purple Castle Peeps quilt for my sister when my niece was born. I’ve been collecting her fabrics ever since!

  10. I would love to use these in a hexie wall hanging for my office at work. I sometimes work on applique or hexies during lunch if the weather is too bad for taking a walk. With winter coming these would be a perfect project for then!

  11. Oh my gosh !!! I love the explosion of colour!! Your quilt is gorgeous!! Your giveaway fabric is awesome too, and I would make a quilt for my daughter for her graduation. Thanks for the chance!!

  12. A multicoloured tea cozy & a couple of throw pillows.
And I have to say that your 5″ square quilt of Lizzy House magic is incredible. I LOVE it! The colours and prints are blended perfectly.

  13. Oooh, what an amazing giveaway! I have to say, I might just hoard it all! Or combine it with my Lizzy collection and copy your idea here because I love it 🙂

  14. Such an amazing bundle! I have a rainbow patchwork quilt on my to do wish list, so that is what I would use this for. A rainbow fun couch quilt for my little family!

  15. I would make a mini quilt from one of your paper pieced patterns and probably a few hexies to add to my collection! How’s that poopy ole facebook treating u? Yep its me😏

  16. I would add these to my current small collection of lizzy house and make myself a new couch quilt. II would have to pet them for alittle while before determining what pattern I would use.

  17. I don’t have any Lizzy House yet, so I would have to pet them for awhile and eventually turn them into a mini or lap quilt. Any scraps would add to my hexie pile, who fate is still undetermined. Thanks for the opportunity. I love all your work.

  18. I adore your quilt, and I’m incredibly jealous of your stash. I would probably just stare at and pet the pretties until I decided on something rainbowtastic to make.

  19. I’ve been wanting to make a quilt with a pretty variation of colors going across the quilt similar to yours. It is one of many on my to do list
