Just before I went off-line for a couple of weeks, I had started to make my own sampler, using vintage quilt blocks from 100+ years ago. I am loving how these blocks are coming together and decided to keep going with this project, so here is block number 4…. the Churn Dash…
This block is also referred to as The Wrench in some quilt books. This six inch block was pretty easy to paper piece and as with all my Hodge Podge blocks you can find the free paper piecing pattern here….churn dash pattern.
You can also use this pattern to make a Greek Cross block….
There are many more Hodge Podges to come… I may not have been able to sew in the last couple of weeks but I could wield a mouse and design some blocks!
Happy to have your posts popping up in my email. Glad you are feeling better. Your ideas inspire me.
I wondered what you’d ease yourself back in with, and this is the perfect solution. If I remember rightly, the last one was Broken Dishes, and I used your pattern for one of my F2F blocks, adding an extra border round the outside of the ‘dish’. It’s so lovely to have you back!
Love the churn dash, although I didn’t know it by that name. I made a small throw a couple months ago for our newly remodeled family room and used all different blocks. This one was my favorite (the center square was a pinwheel), and for some reason it always makes me think of the TIE fighters from the Star Wars movies 🙂
SO GLAD YOU ARE BACK. MISSED YOU.
Really nice to know you are feeling better and have been using your mouse. I really like these 6inch blocks but then I really like lots that you do. Keep up the good work and the recovery.o
How clever to make a Greek cross out of it with just turning four pieces! Blockdesigning with just playing around with layouts is really cool, isn’t it?
The Churn Dash is one of my favorite blocks!
Nice to see another post from you 🙂 ….and I love the orange and white fabrics…
Hi what do you use to design your blocks is it EQ or something else?
I design in EQ and then bring them into Photoshop for tweaking if needed.
Many thanks – I’ve been thinking of buying it but haven’t been sure it will be worthwhile.
So glad to have you back! I really look forward to your creative shares & the info that always inspires me.
I can’t wait to see the quilt finished. Sampler quilts are my favorite types especially modern samplers.
It’s good to get a close up of a block. I like looking at the actual material. Love those kangaroos and the Sam I am!
So glad to hear that you are on the mend. Mouse-wielding sounds like a good use of your downtime.
