A week or so ago I signed up for the first quarter of the 2016 Finish Along. This is a online project that is run every 3 months… basically you sign up at the beginning of a quarter and say what you want to finish over the next couple of months. I am using the program to keep myself on track to finish up things before I start anything new.

Anyway the goals I set myself for the next four months are…
Now I understand I may have over committed but I thought I might as well shot for the stars. But so far I have one of my Do Good Stitches quilts done…
This was such a fun quilt to finish up… I originally set this block for the Hope Circle of Do Good Stitches to do back in June last year. The block pattern is from Clover and Violet and you can find the directions here scrappy christmas star.
I was a little nervous about setting a Bee block that needed to be pretty accurately pieced to align, but it all worked out fabulously. I was able to coerce all the seams into alignment without too much effort…
One of the things I love about doing these scrappy blocks is seeing everyone’s fabric choices and extra love the wonderful selection of low volume novelty prints that were used…
There is so much happening in the quilt as far as print variation but the overall quilt is so quiet and gentle.
For the quilting I went of course with straight lines, which was perfect for this pattern. I used a cream Aurifil for the quilting (No 2309), which blended nicely between the teal, yellow and white/cream background.
For the backing I found the perfect Suzy Ultman for Robert Kaufman piece in my stash – and I had enough to do the whole back!
For the binding I used two different teal Kona Solids I had in my stash and of course hand bound it while watching the Australian Open Tennis. I am going to make the most of the last couple of matches to get another Do Good finish bound…..
So one finish down… at least 5 more to go….

wow, pretty impressive goals – can’t wait to see all your finishes. I love everything about this finish, and I especially LOVE that low volume print of elephants, do you know what it’s called?
I’ll have to check out this quarterly Finish Along as I’ve got quite a few projects started and will need some motivation to get them finished 😉
Hi Sharon. The elephant fabric is part of the Babar line of fabric that Camelot did and this print is the Cream Traveling Elephants print.

WOW I think this is my favorite star quilt yet. You are very ambitious. Do you baste with thread or pins while watching TV? So glad you feel like doing all this work.
I pin baste. I have never tried tread basting but in summer I do love me some spray basting.

This has been one of my favourites in recent months, and I’m so happy to see it done! The other is the pink and yellow drunkard’s path, and I see that’s also on the menu soon. Happy days! Enjoy the tennis, and be devoutly grateful you’re not here right now, the weather is totally unreasonable! Up here the aircon can’t cope with the heat and humidity, and down south they’re having major storms…

Brava! I love this quilt, very nice colors and wonderful low volume fabrics. I had a start on a good collection, then used several in a project, so I need to start again. Or just collect continuously. 🙂 I won’t say over-committed, instead I’ll say you are ambitious!
There is no harm in setting overly ambitious goals so long as you don’t beat up on yourself it you don’t finish them. I usually plan at least one more thing than I think I can do–sometimes with a push I can; other times not. I too love the finished quilt!

Such a lovely finish. I’ve been looking for a bee block to use when I’m the Queen Bee in November. Maybe this is the one I should use? I love all the beautiful colours in your projects.

Love this quilt. Thanks bunches for posting especially as I’ve been collecting gray and yellow fabric for a little while now. AND, I’m here to prove you can teach an old dog new tricks. I’m 72 and been quilting 40 years. Twelve months ago was introduced to modern quilts thru a new small shop. So, my heartfelt thanks to all of you quilters out there who have added soooo much to the movement.
Ambitious target, though I’m sure you can do it.
Setting goals for the year is a grand idea. Our lqs started a WIP club too. Really like the stars.
Congratulations on your first Finish Along finish! I love the scrappiness of it and the colors are gorgeous! This is my second year in the Finish-Along and I’ve found that it really motivates me to actually finish the projects I start!
I love the blues and yellows in the bee block. The fabrics look great.
I know what you mean by bee + accurate piecing = nerves, but I am glad it worked out.
