One finished quilt top and one giveaway…

This week, after a little procrastination. I finally finished sewing all my green stars into a quilt top…

finished green star quilt topI alternated the paper pieced blocks with 8 1/2 inch squares of low volume fabric… using mainly fabrics that had been used in the star blocks.

green star quilt detailI sewed all the blocks together, keeping the paper on the stars.  I have found if I remove the paper from the pattern before I sew everything together there can be issues making everything fit properly.  There can be a lot of bias pieces in paper piecing and you want to minimize the wiggle…

piecingWhen I had sewn all the stars and low volume blocks together I realized the quilt needed a border of some sort.  I ended up making four flying geese blocks and interspersed them within the 3 inch border.

quilt top detailI love how the border and those geese bring the whole quilt together.

green star detailTo celebrate finishing this quilt I thought I would do a little giveaway.

prize packageUp for grabs is this 18 fat eight cuts of fabric so you can make your own green star blocks – 12 different greens and 6 different low volumes.  If you would like to win just leave a comment on this post and we will pick a winner on Monday.   As always I am happy to post overseas.

THE COMPETiTION IS NOW CLOSED.  Thanks.

  1. I have been collecting your tutorial patterns for a few months now, so this fabric would give me the incentive to finally start making some. Thanks for the chance to win and making this give-away open to your readers ‘across the pond’ 🙂

  2. I love the scrappy low-volume background fabrics. I’ve saved all the patterns for these stars for some day … if I win, it would be a big push to get started. Thanks for the giveaway.

  3. I have been following your blog for a long time and love that you share your tutorials. Your stars can be complicated but the way you present them is wonderful and you make it fun. You have encouraged me to paper piece. I love all star patterns and have made some of your patterns into hot pads for practice. Thank you for sharing.

  4. That green star quilt turned out so lovely. If I win your give-away I will use that lobely green fabric for some log-cabin blogs and for some large hexagons!!!!

  5. Squeal! Love your blocks. These came together so nicely. I so need some dark greens in my life. Thank you for your posts and your giveaway!

  6. I have not been a lover of greens but your delightful star series have inspired me. I’ve been saving the patterns and plan to start making them soon for a quilt to donate [with a group] to the Linus Project. Your giveaway is another inspiration. Thanks for sharing so generously.

  7. I showed this to my hubby, and he flipped. He loves green, you see. So much so that he has a collection of over 600 green hotwheels cars! Anyway, we both love this stunning quilt.

  8. I love green, but for some reason green fabric never seems to find its way home with me from the fabric store. Beautiful quilt top.

  9. This looks great!! I love following your block creation and then seeing how it all ties together in the end! Thank you for the great giveaway, too… Can’t go wrong with low volumes, and your green collection is epic! It’s so hard to find good greens.

  10. Love all your great colors as well as patterns. You are an inspiration to us all. Love all your blocks. Gonna make me one. A quilt that is, with all your wonderful patterns! Thank you so much for your creativity and generosity. Would love to win the beautiful stash so I could get started!

  14. This one is so beautiful!!! Can´t wait to see it quilted! What´s your plan (if you have one)?
Thank´s for the tip to leave the paper where it is. Never thought about it! I have just made my first little paper pieced blocks and the paper is still on! 🙂

  16. I love it! I am a huge fan of those bright greens (I am in fact wearing a bright green lab coat as I type this). And I think the addition of the flying geese in the border really makes it fabulous.
