This week, after a little procrastination. I finally finished sewing all my green stars into a quilt top…
I alternated the paper pieced blocks with 8 1/2 inch squares of low volume fabric… using mainly fabrics that had been used in the star blocks.
I sewed all the blocks together, keeping the paper on the stars. I have found if I remove the paper from the pattern before I sew everything together there can be issues making everything fit properly. There can be a lot of bias pieces in paper piecing and you want to minimize the wiggle…
When I had sewn all the stars and low volume blocks together I realized the quilt needed a border of some sort. I ended up making four flying geese blocks and interspersed them within the 3 inch border.
I love how the border and those geese bring the whole quilt together.
To celebrate finishing this quilt I thought I would do a little giveaway.
Up for grabs is this 18 fat eight cuts of fabric so you can make your own green star blocks – 12 different greens and 6 different low volumes. If you would like to win just leave a comment on this post and we will pick a winner on Monday. As always I am happy to post overseas.
THE COMPETiTION IS NOW CLOSED. Thanks.

This is a wonderful quilt top. I an slowly learning about color and placement and can’t wait til I feel comfortable picking out my own design. 🙂
Lovely quilt. I haven’t tried paper piecing yet.
I love all the different stars. Thanks for the giveaway.

Really like your stars and the quilt. Thanks for the chance to win
Love your quilt!! Thanks for doing a giveaway!
This has been fun to watch as it progresses. The green stars stand alone, but wow! How they all come together in a finished quilt! Green is a color I love, but find hard to buy as fabric. It’s nice to see some green inspiration out there.
would love to win the quilt
I love how this has come together I’m working my way up to a paper pieced full size quilt and this technique makes it seem more possible.
I don’t paper piece, but I’d love to win the fabric!
Thank you so much for sharing all of your patterns!
It must be wonderfully exciting for you to get this beautiful quilt top put together! I love the border with the geese, it’s just the perfect ending touch on your masterpiece. Which thank you for the heads up about leaving the paper on, that makes all kinds of sense. My favorite color is green so I’m going to go ahead and throw my name into the contest even though I have already been spoiled by Wombat Quilts. I hope you are enjoying the beginning of summer in your neck of the woods!

And I do mean masterpiece. Your Green Star Quilt is stunning!
Beautiful quilt!!! I love the design too! One day I will need to try this method!!!
AWESOME Quilt!!! Loooove Greens! & thanks for chance to win these great fabrics too! 🙂
I’m new to paper piecing and never really thought of how the bias edges might skew the blocks if the paper was removed before sewing the blocks together. Good tip.
Beautiful quilt for sure! Thank you for the lovely giveaway!
I absolutely love your patterns–those stars are so fabulous. Love the green, love the low volume, love the quilt!
I love this quilt top! Really enjoyed seeing it come together block-by-beautiful-block … And I would love to make one myself. I love paper piecing, but I’ve never done a big project like this. And thank you for the giveaway!
I hadn’t thought about leaving the paper on until the whole top is put together! Nice idea! Love this quilt top! Thanks for the giveaway too!
Watching you through your green stars block construction to this great looking quilt has been a fun journey. Thanks for the tip to leave the paper on to help prevent wonkiness. I would have ripped it off sooner but perhaps I will give your method a try.
Love how it turned out. And thanks for not only the giveaway, but posting your star patterns as well. I am excited to try a few for a Christmas quilt I am working on.
Sehr schönes Quilt Top, love your quilt Top.
Lieben Gruß Sylvia
Yes please, would love a chance to win your lovely fabrics. Your star quilt is great, by the way.
OMG I am so in love with your green stars and pretty much with all of your work ever since I stumbled across your red and aqua starts. And it so happens that green is my favourite colour and I’ve been looking for a project to use all my lovely green fabrics from my stash. Your gorgeous give away would be the icing on my star quilt cake!
Very pretty, hard to pick which star I like the best.
I love how the stars pop against the low volume fabrics and how they aren’t just white or cream. Great job! Thanks for the chance to win.
Very Pretty!
Congrats on finishing. Those shades of green are particular favorites of mine.
I have just recently started following ‘wombatquilts’ and loving every post. What initially caught my eye is your use of vibrant colors and unique paper pieced patterns. I am inspired to try what I thought was a daunting process. I have two sisters and am thinking of making your Star Quilt for each of us. I live in Western Canada – there are thousands of wonderful fabrics available here in North America but it is always fun to see the fabrics quilters in other countries are using.
What a beautiful palette of greens! Thank you for sharing some of them!
Love your completed quilt and thanks for a lovely giveaway x
I love the your quilt! A two color quilt is on my quilty bucket list!
What beautiful stars! I love the emerald green, such a pretty color. You don’t see that color very often.
Love how this all came out! I like that you used the same low volume prints for the interspersed squares – rather than a solid. To me it gives the quilt more texture. Do you think that low volume prints create negative space in the same way that a solid would do? Did you consider using solids?
This looks amazing! I love how you combined the stars with the low volume squares, and the geese in the borders are fantastic. Love it!!
Green is my favourite colour and I love your green stars!

These are gorgeous! I love all the greens, how vibrant and clean they are. And having each star be different is just beautiful.
These are gorgeous! I love how clean and bright the greens are and how each different star draws the eye.
Love green stars. And a bit of geese on the border is very pretty.
I love your green star quilt. The fabric bundle is wonderful. Thanks for the giveaway.
That is one beautiful quilt……so different.
I’ve been watching all your gorgeous green star blocks and am happy to see them together.
I love how the low tones make the green pop. You have a great eye for colors.
Beautiful fabric and beautiful Greens! I’ve done paper piecing doing both leaving paper in & taking it off. There can be that advantage of keeping that block the correct size!
