One finished quilt top and one giveaway…

This week, after a little procrastination. I finally finished sewing all my green stars into a quilt top…

finished green star quilt topI alternated the paper pieced blocks with 8 1/2 inch squares of low volume fabric… using mainly fabrics that had been used in the star blocks.

green star quilt detailI sewed all the blocks together, keeping the paper on the stars.  I have found if I remove the paper from the pattern before I sew everything together there can be issues making everything fit properly.  There can be a lot of bias pieces in paper piecing and you want to minimize the wiggle…

piecingWhen I had sewn all the stars and low volume blocks together I realized the quilt needed a border of some sort.  I ended up making four flying geese blocks and interspersed them within the 3 inch border.

quilt top detailI love how the border and those geese bring the whole quilt together.

green star detailTo celebrate finishing this quilt I thought I would do a little giveaway.

prize packageUp for grabs is this 18 fat eight cuts of fabric so you can make your own green star blocks – 12 different greens and 6 different low volumes.  If you would like to win just leave a comment on this post and we will pick a winner on Monday.   As always I am happy to post overseas.

THE COMPETiTION IS NOW CLOSED.  Thanks.

  1. Love the greens in your stars and the scrappy background is just right. I have been working with a lot of low, volume “off white” fabrics would live to,win the greens and Lviv younger offering.

  2. I love the addition of the geese in the border. My stash is sorely lacking in low-volume fabrics, so I’d definitely get some use out of your generous giveaway.

  3. Hi. Been following your star making since you started this project. Really like the colour combinations. Also like your pink stars. Made cushions using these designs. Keep up the good work. Your posting each week is great!!
    Regards.

  4. wow! Quilt looks gorgeous! You’ve inspired me to try my hand at paper piecing, the stars are all just too lovely to resist!

  5. The finish is incredible. The contrast between the greens is wonderful and the “low volume” neutrals are beautiful. The addition of the flying geese in the border really finishes the top. Always fun to see how your projects come together. Thanks for a chance to win.

  6. Finding you here lead me to you on FB. I was introduced to paper/foundation piecing years ago. Your site is eye candy and inspiration and been the cause of my expanding my fabric collection! I’ve downloaded & shared and one of your blocks that caught my eye long ago was the central star block in my first art quilt. Thanks for sharing your talent and some of your awesome fabric!

  7. Ooh! I’ve been following your green stars since the beginning. How cool you are sharing your greens! Can’t wait till Monday…

  8. Wow, so beautiful! I love the way the greens just pop! I love to paper piece so making a quilt like this looks like a lot of fun to me. Your fabrics are wonderful, thanks for the chance to win!

  12. I love your quilt! I have been following your stars and enjoying each one. I kick named your quilt “Rocket Man, flying to the stars and back!” It was just the first thought when I saw your flying geese in the border! Well done!

  13. I love that green you’ve used, it really sings next to the low volume prints. The border with the geese just rings it perfectly and keeps the eye within the quilt. Thanks for the tip about keeping the paper on while you sew everything together.

  14. Thank you for sharing your journey! I’ve learned so much & have begun making some of the wonderful blocked you’ve used/created in your quilt. So glad I found your blog! Congrats on finishing this wonderful quilt!!

  18. I love the colour combo! I recently asked the two year old that I babysit what colour she would like me to make her quilt with and se said green, and when I asked her about a second colour, she said “more green”! So this would be perfect for the next quilt I make!
