Better late than never….

Paper piecing Monday just did not happen yesterday. After spending 5 days celebrating Russian Christmas with friends at Hood River we got home late last night and I just could not get my act together enough to post.  I blame the vodka, the lack of sleep and the rip snorting good time I had.  So without further ado here is Paper Piecing Monday’s latest block…

free paper piecing blockI like the pointy light green spike behind the dark green star.  I used the lightest greens for the background points so they almost fade into the sky….

quilt block piecesI branched away from the triangle blocks this week and went with simple square components.  You can find the free pattern here….Star petal  I promise the PDF has a numbered pattern, unlike the one in the photograph!  I once again blame the vodka!

Swirling Star Paper piecing Monday

Today’s block is a very simple block, is really easy to make but really effective…

swirling star quilt blockJust twelve easy pieces and you get a fabulous twisting pin wheel star.  I can definitely see a quilt made out of a larger version of this block…  The free PDF pattern for this 8 inch star can be found here…swirling star

This is block 11, if I am counting right.  I need to start thinking about what I want to do with these blocks and how many I need to make.  Usually 12 blocks is enough but as these are smaller blocks I feel I need more… should I make a few more or move onto something else?

Resuming the regular Paper Piecing Monday schedule…

After a crazy few months Paper Piecing Monday is back on track. To help myself slowly get back on track I made a green version of one of my Starry Night blocks.

Starrry Night block 1

A twenty-four piece cute little thing.  The free paper piecing pattern can be found here… Starry Night WQ block 2 and if you want to see my original version you can find it here.block pieces

This block uses four triangle pieces to make the completed 8 inch block. Last time I posted this pattern I had a couple of questions about how I put the block together… It is an easy process of sewing two of the triangle together along one side so you get a joined piece…

putting it togetherI then do the same thing with the other two pieces of the blocks…and then sew the two halves together.  I find this makes aligning the center piece very easy.

Paper piecing Monday will be back next week with some newly designed blocks….

Are you bored with 8 inch green stars yet?

I hope not, as I have another one this week….

Crest star

This 8 inch star is based on a couple of patterns I have found online and in books. This 8 inch version is done for my ongoing green star quilt and you can find the PDF pattern here….Crest Star Pattern.

I am on vacation/holiday at the moment so I am keeping it short and sweet.

Green with envy yet?

If not, give this block a look…

Triforce star

This block is called the Triforce star block…and if any of you know Zelda you will know where it got its name from.   A little geeky I know but I love it.

Triforce star pieces

The block has a few more pieces than the last couple but only a few… 28 in total.  The free pattern can be downloaded here…Triforce Star.

As promised I also took a photo of the stars I have made so far….
